The Existence of God

In our everyday experience we see that the more man is acquainted with the components and composition of a particular thing, the greater will be the knowledge of predicting its future course. For example, a watchmaker makes a watch. As he has good knowledge of its parts and make-up, he can predict with a great degree of confidence how long the watch will last. However, as man is not his own creator, he does not possess perfect knowledge of the various elements of his body and the true value of the existing objects in the world and so he does not have knowledge of what will happen to himself or to anything in the future.

Thus, if here is anyone who has knowledge of the future, then it will certainly be the Creator of the world, that is, God. Allah, Most High, sent His messengers to the world (for man, being man, does not know what the future holds). As a result, the Most High God discloses to him news of future events as the Holy Quran informs us: "The Knower of the unseen, so He makes His secrets known to none, except a messenger whom He chooses. For surely He makes a guard to go before him and after him" (72:26-27).

By this method, Allah, Most High, proves that He exists. We must always bear in mind the announcement of the Holy Prophet (sas) fourteen hundred years ago: "But this day We shall save thee in thy body that thou mayest be a sign to those after thee..." (10:92).

This is the promise that Allah, Most High, made to Pharaoh when he was about to be drowned. It is interesting to note that the Torah states that Pharaoh and all his chariots sank beneath the sea like a stone. The Quran contradicts this and said that Pharaoh's body would be preserved. Thus, the discovery of his mummified body provides indubitable testimony of the existence of God.

Het bestaan van God

In onze dagelijkse ervaringen zien we dat, hoe meer iemand bekend is met de componenten en samenstelling van iets, hoe nauwkeuriger zijn voorspelling van de levensloop ervan zal zijn. Een horlogemaker, bijvoorbeeld, maakt een horloge. Aangezien hij de nodige kennis heeft van de onderdelen en de samenstelling ervan, kan hij vrij nauwkeurig voorspellen hoelang het horloge zal meegaan. Aangezien echter de mens zichzelf niet heeft geschapen, bezit hij niet voldoende kennis van de verschillende elementen van zijn lichaam en de werkelijke waarde van de diverse objecten in de wereld. Hij heeft dus geen kennis over wat er met zichzelf – of met wat dan ook – zal gebeuren in de toekomst.

Als er dus iemand is die kennis heeft van de toekomst, is dat zeker de Schepper van de wereld, God. Allah, de Allerhoogste, stuurde Zijn boodschappers naar de wereld (aangezien de mens, mens zijnde, niet weet wat de toekomst inhoudt). Daarom openbaart God, de Allerhoogste, nieuws over toekomstige gebeurtenissen aan hem, zoals de Koran ons vertelt: "De Kenner van het ongeziene, dus maakt Hij Zijn geheimen aan niemand bekend, behalve aan een boodschapper die Hij verkiest. Hij zorgt er immers voor dat er een hoeder voor hem uitgaat en dat er een achter hem aankomt" (72:26-27).

Via deze weg bewijst Allah, de Allerhoogste, dat Hij bestaat. We moeten altijd het gezegde van de Profeet (vzmh), 1400 jaar geleden, voor ogen houden: "Maar deze dag zullen Wij jou redden in jouw lichaam opdat je een teken zult zijn voor degenen na jou..." (10:92).

Dit is de belofte die Allah, de Allerhoogste, aan Farao deed toen hij zou verdrinken. Het is interessant te vermelden dat de Torah vermeldt dat Farao en al zijn strijdwagens onder zee verdwenen als stenen. De Koran spreekt dit tegen en zegt dat het lichaam van Farao behouden zou blijven. De ontdekking van zijn gemummificeerd lichaam geeft dus een duidelijk bewijs van het bestaan van God.
